Stephen Bryant , PsyD, LCPC

Dr. Stephen Bryant is a licensed clinical professional counselor and postdoctoral clinical and forensic psychologist who specializes in psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults. He holds dual master’s degrees in Clinical and Forensic Psychology and earned his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2025.

Dr. Bryant began his career working in addiction treatment, where he became deeply aware of the high levels of burnout affecting mental health professionals. This experience shaped his clinical and academic focus on burnout prevention and intervention, particularly among those working in behavioral health settings. His training has included work in community mental health centers, hospitals, and private practice, giving him a wide-ranging perspective on both systemic and individual factors contributing to emotional exhaustion and professional impairment.

Dr. Bryant previously served as a predoctoral clinician at Linden Oaks Behavioral Health. He is currently completing his postdoctoral training at Advanced Behavioral Health Services, where he provides therapy, psychological testing, and comprehensive assessments. In earlier roles, he treated individuals with substance use disorders through his work at The Way Back Inn and Grateful House.

His clinical expertise includes the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety, substance use, trauma, PTSD, grief, interpersonal difficulties, personality disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders. He integrates a range of evidence-based and psychodynamic approaches, including Self Psychology, Object Relations Theory, Motivational Interviewing, Gestalt Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Play Therapy.

Dr. Bryant is a recognized authority on professional burnout and has presented his research at national conferences. His doctoral dissertation, titled “Education and Perceived Therapy Readiness Influence on Substance Use Disorder Counselors’ Burnout,” received the Distinguished Dissertation Award in 2024. He is the author of two books: “Beyond Burnout: Exploring the Realities of Burnout in Mental Health Care” and “The Scholastic Burnout Spiral: Education, Therapy Readiness, and Burnout: A Quantitative Study of Substance Use Disorder Counselors.” He was also honored with the Research Poster Presentation Award at the Illinois Psychological Association’s Annual Convention. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Bryant develops and teaches continuing education courses on burnout and addiction.He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Illinois Psychological Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.
